Dog Tracks Make More Money on Poker Rooms Than Dogs

Posted under dog racing & poker & poker rooms

Profits are up at dog racing tracks all across the state of Florida, where gamblers congregate to play money on the popular racing events that are held there. But in recent months, the revenue has exploded beyond anyone’s predictions, as a July 1 law allows dog tracks to offer poker rooms as well as the traditional wagering on the outcome of dog races. Revenue is up nearly 90% all across the state, as more and more players flocked to the dog tracks to take part in wagering on the dogs as well as playing in the available poker rooms. By allowing poker rooms to flourish in his manner, Florida legislators can enable the state to generate extra tax revenue that will benefit residents and government alike. With this new focus on online gambling and gaming in previously existing poker rooms, Florida enters the collective of the very few states that allow such gambling beyond Indian reservations and specific casino areas. By allowing additional gambling activity, Florida sets a precedent for other states to follow, hopefully leading the way in the charge to allow American proprietors and establishments to profit from gaming and gambling at poker rooms and casinos.

Considering that Florida poker rooms have only just opened in the last few months and are already competing with revenue generated by the dog tracks, it remains to be seen how successful the poker rooms themselves will be independently of the traffic generated by the racetrack. Industry experts expect to see exponential growth in the area of the poker rooms for as long as the law is lenient and continues to allow poker rooms to operate. New poker rooms are constantly being opened in Florida since the law was recently passed, allowing for more and more operators to enjoy the benefits of offering competition and new action for poker players through poker rooms located in the previously existing sports betting infrastructure. The simplicity of opening a new poker room makes it a simple matter for these sports betting operations to include the wagers and card rooms in their existing commercial strategies, allowing for a commendation and synergy or exposure for both sides of the gambling equation. Players who come to play cards are likely to play the dogs as well, and vice versa.
The beneficial nature of this coexistence will very likely create all kinds of new revenue for the Florida poker room and casino proprietors.
