World Record Largest Online Poker Tournament

Posted under online poker & poker tournament & texas holdem

Full Tilt Poker will attempt to stamp its name on the Guinness Records and to do so; the site has announced that it will try to set a new record for the Largest Online Poker Tournament. Full Tilt’s Record Breaker tournament was unveiled as the finale to FIVE, a week of events and promotions created exclusively to celebrate the site’s 5th anniversary. The tournament will take place on July 19th at 15:05ET, players can buy in for this event for only $5 or 1000 Full Tilt Points and compete for a share of a $250,000 guaranteed with $250,000 added prize pool. Players can also get entries to this event by playing the online satellites available on the site and starting for as little as 30 cents or 50 Full Tilt Points.

Team Full Tilt pros and WSOP bracelet winners Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson and Phil Ivey have already confirmed they will take part in the event, offering players the chance to sit down at this historic tournament and play with some of the best high stakes and tournament pros in the world.

“By extending the limits of what is possible in online poker tournaments, Full Tilt Poker will allow players to compete for a big payout without the big buy-in,” said Team Full Tilt member Howard Lederer.

Putting together a poker tournament of this magnitude would be nearly impossible for any brick and mortar casino or poker room. The current record for the largest “live” poker tournament was set at the 2006 WSOP Main Event with 8,772 players. To break the current Guinness Record set by PokeStars.com in December, 2008, Full Tilt Poker will need to attract over 35.000 players. If successful, this tournament will establish Full Tilt Poker as World Record holder and cement its reputation as a world leader in online poker industry.

Can I Actually Make Money Playing Texas Hold’em?

Posted under las vegas poker & learning poker & online poker

poker money
Imagine if you were to have a conversation with any typical person off the street about Texas Hold’em, they in all probability wouldn’t deem Texas Hold’em to be a game of strategy, preparation, or study. Possibly when you talk about online poker with them, they would perhaps picture some acquaintances lounging around their kitchen table having conversations and smoking cigars. They also may consider Texas Hold’em poker to be a game of pure luck as opposed to talent, closer to a game of craps rather than a game of skill, for example.

So the big question you might be asking yourself is: “Can I become rich playing poker?”. Believe it or not, you can actually make money this way. Several people not only win money by playing Texas Hold’em poker, but also become millionaires by competing in Texas Hold’em tournaments. The most important thing you shouldn’t forget about Texas Hold’em is that while you can play in a Sin City casino, alongside blackjack tables and slot machines; in Texas Hold’em you are not working against the house but against other Texas Hold’em poker players. Hence, in truth, you are risking your hard cash against other players in a competition of skill rather than a game of fate.

You might be thinking to yourself: “Isn’t the game of poker about chance as well?” Certainly in Texas Hold’em, no one really knows which cards will be dealt out. That doesn’t necessarily signify that one can’t play poker games with a certain quantity of pre-game know-how. One thing that is important to remember in Texas Hold’em poker is that numbers will be your best friend. Statistics plays a very significant part in the game of poker. Not to mention, that even if you get somewhat fortunate every once in while the numbers always have a way of bringing you back down to earth.

Keep in mind that LV casino table games similar to Texas Hold’em poker where you are essentially competing versus other real-life competitors CAN be won. It is proven that the more you play the game of poker, you will realize that it is more of game of aptitude as opposed to natural fate.

Celebrities Want To Legalize Online Poker

Posted under online poker & poker & poker celebrities & poker laws

Shortly after the beginning of last week’s charity poker game to aid the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Ben Affleck goes all-in with a flop of Ace-Nine-King and two diamonds. He cringes when two of his challengers call the bet. He yells “Re-buy”, but the turn is a seven of hearts. Affleck is upset when a jack of diamonds is dealt on the river. He took the hand seriously even though there was no actual cash at stake. This is just the kind of thing that Affleck and several other online poker enthusiasts are pushing for.

Over $100,000 was raised for the paralyzed victims, but this was not the only function of the poker event held in Coors Field. Members of the Poker Players Alliance are working very hard to legalize internet poker in the United States. As part of their agenda, they are pushing to repeal the 2006 legislation Congress passed which forbids U.S. Banks and credit card companies from processing transactions related to online poker websites.

John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance, is optimistic about the direction that the new congress will lead this decision. Pappas says that the alliance is pushing for a licensed industry, just for online poker, and not for all internet gambling. Pappas is interested in having a safe, regulated industry that all Americans can enjoy. The group is fighting for the rights of people and the privacy they deserve in their own home.

“There are misconceptions about poker and about online poker,” poker pro Andy Bloch said in between hands during the charity poker game. “Some people think that online gambling is gambling like a slot machine, and it’s not.”
